Recent Developments in the Role and Reference Grammar Theory of Clause Linkage
نویسنده
چکیده
Role and Reference Grammar (RRG) contains a theory of the syntax and semantics of clause linkage. This theory was first developed in Foley & Van Valin (1984) but remained relatively unrevised through the end of the 1990s. In the last five years there has been a flurry of new work on clause linkage, including a substantial revision and expansion of the theory in Van Valin (2005). This paper summarizes the major changes to the RRG theory of clause linkage.

A Concise Introduction to Role and Reference Grammar
This paper presents the basic concepts of Role and Reference Grammar [RRG], a theory of grammar which draws heavily on the analysis of non-lndo-European languages and which is concerned with the interaction of syntax, semantics and pragmatics in grammatical systems. RRG is a monostratal theory which posits a single syntactic representation for a sentence, which is linked directly to a semantic ...
متن کاملSerial Verb Construction in Mandarin Chinese: The interface of syntax and semantics
This study aims at providing a unified account of the serial verb construction as a complex predicate in Mandarin Chinese. Adopting the assumption that complex predicates may be broadly viewed as syntactic complexity to present cognitively complex events (Givon, 2009), the proposal of this study may differ from most previous studies on the clear boundary of the Chinese serial verb construction....

This article is a brief exposure of the process approach to a newly emerging area called "discrete event systems" in control theory and summarizes some of the recent developments in this area. Discrete event systems is an area of research that is developing within the interstices of computer, control and communication sciences. The basic direction of research addresses issues in the analysis an...
